A fireplace is not only an area to heat your home, whether in your living room or in the area you prefer, it will also fill that space with life to make it much more welcoming and inviting. We have wanted to make a fireplace in the apartment that we rented for a long time but we still had not made the decision to make it since we thought to do it in our future home but after planning and thinking we came up with an amazing and “renter friendly” idea without the need of damaging the property we are renting. In addition to this, all the materials and projects that we were going to do would be easy to remove and could be reused in our next home.
For this project, we decided to choose a black fire stove that we got while shopping at Walmart but you can get one on Amazon, maybe even at a better price and much more variety. The one we choose is a somewhat vintage style but it goes perfectly with the project we had in mind.
In the area of the wall behind the stove, we will be working on a wall design like an accent wall but covering only the area of the stove up to the ceiling, we paint with a warm ashes color tone, and the design will be done using 2×1″ wood. Putting them at different angles and levels to give it the style we want, we will also use a special walnut color stain to preserve the color of the wood. By combining the colors of the wall, the texture, and the design in the wood it creates a mix between rustic and modern that makes it perfect.
To make a more realistic look we decided to add a floor under the stove to simulate the concrete floor that would normally have a real stove as a heat insulator, we built it in wood using 4×1″ wooden boards and a 1/8″ panel, and we cut it to size, (it is really recommended that it be in concrete but this job is for decorative purpose only and we will not use the heating system of it) then we paint it with white acrylic paint so that the black color of the stove stands out since the wood tone on the floor is a bit dark and takes away the stove presence.
Since we are in autumn and the Christmas season is approaching we decided to decorate this space using the red color of Christmas, for that we use a wreath made of red berries which was created in the DIY Home & Crafts YouTube Channel and is perfect to give it a colorful accent to this space, we also add a Christmas decorated metal crate with firewood and in the other side some pine trees covered with snow to simulate the cold, since here in Florida we are still with temperatures of 80+ degrees.
