When it’s time to move, it might be really exciting, but at the same time, it can be a nightmare if you don’t get prepared on time. Here we share with you some ideas that we use in our recent move and believe us they really help us to get not only prepared but organized and it makes the process really smooth. You can watch it on video at the end of this post.
1. Label Cables
If you have cables all around like us, we recommend to put a piece of tape or a label to each of them and you can write on it what is it for or the device you need it for.
2. Use Protective Plastic Wrap
Plastic wrapping paper can save you a lot of work if you have items in baskets, or in boxes already, but they are broken or without lid, you can use it by wrapping them with the protective wrap. This not only will save you a lot of time, it will also protect your belongings and after using it you can just recycle the plastic.
3. Highlight fragile Boxes
If you are moving you may know items will be all around and maybe get hit by other boxes or even throw if they are not labeled, so it’s always better to identify all the boxes that are fragile with a noticeable marker so everyone helping on the move know they need to be careful with those boxes.
4. Prepare a Legend or Key
This is one of the best moving hacks we’ve ever done, (it helped us a lot), make a legend and identify every single box with the symbol that you choose to know what area of the house the box belong to, this will help a lot when unloading the boxes to put the box in the right spot.
5. First Day Essentials Box
Better be prepared with some snacks, water, food and you can even include some silverware, garbage bags and cleaning products, because moving will make you thirsty and hungry really fast, and also you never know when the disaster will happen.
6. Utilize Garbage Bags For Clothes
Using garbage bags to store the hanging clothes will keep your clothes clean and organized while moving, and after using them you can just reuse them or recycle them.
7. Use Storage Bags
If you have open food containers use Ziploc kind storage bags so the food don’t get spilled, also you can use them to store messy toys like blocks or small cars.
8. Have Extra Clothes
Since everything will be in boxes make sure to have some clothes out even for a couple of days just in case. You never know, some times things happens.
9. Use Laundry Bags For Pillows
Using this laundry bags for pillows was super useful, since pillows need a lot of space we manage to put them all in one of these bags just squeeze them all and done.
10. Reuse Boxes
If you are like us that receive many Amazon, and mailboxes on your door, keep them all, it doesn’t matter the size or the shape, you will probably need them all on the move. By doing these you will save a lot of money on moving boxes.
11. Foam Plates Between Ceramic Plates
To protect your ceramic plates you can use disposable foam plates to put between instead of paper, by doing these your plates will be more resistant and you can always reuse the foam plates after moving.
12. Use Clear Plastic Boxes
Use clear plastic boxes and label them for misc. items like extra cables, chargers, and others. Place theme somewhere in your house before moving and every time you find one of these items put them into the box it belongs to, this will help you a lot.
13. Moving Tools Bucket
Prepare a bucket with essential tools you know you will probably need when moving, like tape, trash bags, scissors, markers, so every time you need one you’ll know where to look for them.
14. Separate And Classify Unwanted Items
Separate things you don’t really want to keep, there might be some stuff you want to throw away but there might be other things you want to donate or even sell to get some money back.
