Hey guys, do you like the shiplap look on the wall? We love it, but we live in a rental apartment and we cannot cover the wall of holes to put the wooden sticks and form a shiplap wall, also this can be quite expensive depending on the size of the wall. The cheapest way to create this look and make it rental friendly is by using a 3mm wide black graphic chart tape. This tape is perfect for create solid lines for charts, crafts, decorations, signage and it works on a variety of surfaces, including plastic, whiteboard, paper, wood, etc.
We wanted to give our entryway a change and create a nice space and elevate it with unique design choices, like a accent wall with a shiplap look. The first thing we did was make sure the surface is clean. Then you must get a carpenter’s square or a ruler to measure the size of the space between each line, in our case we use a separation space of 5″ between each strip, but you can do it at the distance that you like the most, (preferably between 4 to 6 inches of separation between each strip).
Once you have taken the measurements and verified that they are well leveled, you can begin to stick the adhesive tape from side to side of the wall, and for the corners you can place a small dot of super glue only for reinforcing it, since in these areas, the adhesive tape would be much more exposed. Once the super glue is dry, you can cut the excess tape that you have left at each side of the wall and that’s it. This is a very easy project to do, cheap and perfect if you live in a rental home because will last a long time sticked on your wall and you can remove it at any time if you want.
Once we finished the process of creating our accent wall, we began to decorate and place the furniture we wanted in our entryway, paying attention to its functionality and giving it our personal style. To decorate your entryway you can place elements such as hooks, baskets, a console table, a chair or bench, as well as sentimental pieces like art.
We put many pieces that we already had in our home as well as pieces that we have bought in thrift stores and we have arranged them for something that we like and fit more with our style. We love the farmhouse style and since we are in the fall season, on our bench we put throw pillows in neutral colors and on one side we add a galvanized metal tray with a pumpkin, vases and wheats that give that beautiful and cozy autumn touch. The bottom part of the benches are a perfect space to place baskets with different colors and textures and they are a great solution for stashing everyday essentials, throw blankets for a warm vibe and plants to help bring the space to life.
On the wall we put a wooden shelf with hooks to place a beautiful DIY wreath in brown, beige and mustard colors with spikes and wheats. On the other side, we hang a chain that gives a rustic and antique touch to it. To decorate on the top of the shelf you can be very creative by placing pieces of art that you like and some pumpkins and signs that provide a representation of the abstract and that remind us of this autumn season.
