EASY WAY TO DIY A COFFEE TABLE ON A BUDGET

When we talk about coffee tables we may think about expensive decor pieces that could cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, if that’s your case think again, because we are going to share with you how we were able to recreate a very expensive designer coffee table for less than $75.00. We decided to recreate a beautiful table we found on the web that was priced at $349, and even tho it was gorgeous, we know we could make something really similar for less.

Table we recreate

The first thing we needed to do was to go shopping for some wood and materials at our local hardware store where we found this thirty-six inches tabletop for around $48.00 and even tho we were going to look for wooden panels we thought this was a good option to save some time and the price wasn’t too different than a plywood panel.

We also bought these seventeen inches long wooden legs that were perfect for the style that we wanted to recreate and the best thing is that they were on clearance and we end up paying about three dollars and fifty cents for them, isint it awesome?

17″ wooden Legs

To be able to use these beautiful legs we needed to use some top plates to get them screwed into our wooden top, so there were two options, the flat ones and the angled ones, and of course we bought the angled ones because they will make our legs to look more similar to the table we are recreating.

Angled top Plate

To place our wooden legs first we need to draw a perfect triangle inside a perfect circle, and to do this we need to find the center of the circle, after finding the center with a carpenter compass or a cord, draw a semi-circle crossing thru the center point of the tabletop.

Putting the wooden legs

Then draw a line from each vertex of the triangle to the center of the table, this line will guide you to place the metal plates that will be holding your table’s legs.

Place the top plates

Now its time to start sanding our top, even tho it was already sanded and pre-cut, it had some minimal imperfections that were needed to be corrected by sanding it, we use sanding paper between 100 to number 220 make sure to sand every single dent or damage really well because if you don’t you will notice them after painting and that could be a problem to fix.

Sand the Top and legs

Now is time to bring this table to life by giving it some color, which we choose our all times favorite stain color “Special Walnut“. We love these color because is not too dark or too light, it is just right in the middle of both when you finish painting with your favorite stain, put the legs on and let it dry for at least twenty four hours.

Paint the top

The table is almost done, just put a few layers of a protective coat like “Polycrylic” using sponges and living each coat dry for at least two hours, and you are done with your beautiful, modern, and inexpensive coffee table.

Protective coat

Time to decorate your coffee table according to the season and enjoy your new easy and inexpensive coffee table with your family and friends. At the end of this article, we share some similar material to the ones that we use to make this project as well as a fun video tutorial.
